Pacific Blues

We are now producing the species penaeus stylirostris, or "PACIFIC BLUES".

These prawns exhibit a sweeter, more succulent, tender taste than tiger prawns. For restaurateurs, the recovery rate is also slightly higher, giving more meat yield per kg.

The Australian Heart Foundation has transferred prawns trom the "not recommended" list to the "recommended" list, as new research has proved that the Omega-3 fatty acids provide a complete balance.

However, the major advantage with PACIFIC BLUES is that they are raised without any antibiotics or chemicals, so consumers may be confident that they are eating a naturally grown product that is not detrimental to their health, but on the contrary, beneficial.

OUR "BLUES" ARE GUARANTEED VIRUS- AND ANTIBIOTIC-FREE.

Features

  • No antibiotics. In many prawn-exporting countries, water quality is so poor that high levels of antibiotics are required to control bacterial diseases. These antibiotics are inoculated into the feed, and accumulate in the flesh of the prawn. The consumer is actually ingesting antibiotics with each prawn eaten, which can have serious health implications.
  • Virus-free. Fiji is free from the serious viral diseases which have plagued the prawn industry world-wide. Institute of Marine Resources research has shown that imported whole frozen prawns can carry lethal viruses in the heads, which can be discarded into waterways, and the virus re-activated, decimating local wild populations.
  • Tender, succulent texture. The Pacific Blue is characterized by the subtle, delicate, delicious flavour, and firm but tender texture.
  • Higher recovery rate. This species is showing a slightly higher tail-overall length ratio, giving more meat yield per kg than black tigers.
  • Naturally grown locally. Grown locally here in Fiji, in Navua, these prawns are raised totally naturally, without any chemicals or antibiotics, thus ensuring a quality, healthy product.

Advantages

  • Harvested straight to ice, frozen one-time, ensuring maximum freshness and quality. Imported prawns may have been harvested under poor hygiene conditions, and may have been re-processed a number of times, each time losing flavour and texture.
  • Fresh to consumer. Being locally grown, these prawns have not suffered quality degradation by months of storage and shipping.
  • Harvesting on a year-round basis ensures short shelf-time, and ongoing supply of superior quality product.
  • Pacific Prawns (Fiji) sources seawater for production from Beqa Passage, pristine reef seawater, not polluted waterways of South-East Asia.
  • Promotion of locally-grown products enhances Fiji's reputation as a destination. Visitors expect to sample locally caught or harvested seafood, and to promote Pacific Blues as such will be of benefit to all concerned.

Benefits

  • Australian Heart Foundation "Recommended" list. Latest nutrition research has shown that prawns are a perfectly balanced food, the Omega-3's cancelling out "bad" cholesterol, so consumers can be comfortable that they are eating a healthy, beneficial product.
  • Import replacement. By buying locally grown commodities, consumers are helping to improve Fiji's economy, lowering imports and enhancing rural employment.
